The two young men busted at JFK Airport allegedly on their way to join the al-Shabaab terrorist group in Somalia were dangerously serious about their plan to wage jihad—even if they did talk like a couple of two-bit punks from the Jersey shore, cops say. "A lot of people need to get killed, bro, swear to God," Mohamed Alessa told an undercover NYPD officer in a recorded conversation. And he boasted that he'd outdo the Fort Hood shooter, who killed 13 people. "Freaking Major-Nidal-shaved-face-Palestinian-crazy guy; he's not better than me. I'll do twice what he did."
The Jersey pair, aged 26 and 20, had converted to Islam and spoken out strongly against the treatment of Palestinians in Gaza, say neighbors. But no one predicted that they would try to take matters into their own hands, the New York Daily News reports. "I was born here, you know, raised here. I just want the troops to come home safely and cozily—in caskets," Carlos Almonte told the same undercover cop. Added Alessa: "Sliced up in 1,000 pieces, cozy in the grave, in hell."
