Andruw Jones’ won’t play for the Braves next season, after Atlanta GM John Schuerholz said the club won't bid for the center fielder's services now that he's a free agent, because of the high salary demands of Jones’ agent, Scott Boras. Schuerholz wouldn’t reveal the specific numbers Boras wanted, but described them as “top tier,” reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Some believe that Boras was requesting at least a seven-year contract worth around $20 million annually. Jones has spent his entire, often accolade-filled career with the Braves, but a drastic offensive dropoff in 2007 helped convince the team to let him go. Schuerholz also indicated that improving the team’s starting pitching will be the Braves’ top priority this offseason. (More Andruw Jones stories.)
