Sadie Stein tried very hard to become a member of the coffee elite. First she went to the new "coffee meccas" in New York City, where she "drank cup after ceremoniously-prepared amber cup, even though I hated it." Then she attended a seminar on different roasts, hoping to see the light. "I still didn't get it," she writes at Jezebel.

She finally resigned herself to her "simple" tastes and the notion that "apricot notes and floral undertones are lost on me." Still, she writes, "I am a little embarrassed about this, the same way I am about preferring milk to dark chocolate. But just as some cars need expensive gas, my body seems to need cheap coffee—it doesn't seem to appreciate that it's out of step." (More coffee stories.)
