Though opinions of the government vary, most Americans continue to have a favorable view of President Obama, Fox News reports. In a new poll, 62% of respondents approve of the job Obama is doing; 31% disapprove. 64% like the president as a person. But on the administration’s takeover of General Motors and handling of the economy, the country divides along party lines.
62% of Democrats approve of intervening in GM’s affairs, while 72% of Republicans think the government should have steered clear. As for the takeover itself, 79% of GOP respondents disapprove, to 39% of Dems. The partisan divide extends to Americans’ thinking about the economy in general. While 50% of Democrats think things are getting better, just 27% of Republicans share that optimism. (More President Obama stories.)
