In Elizabeth Edwards memoir about coming to terms with her husband's disastrous affair, she tries to understand why he was "targeted” by videographer Rielle Hunter and why he fell for it. "I have come to understand his liaison with this woman, if I have, not as a substitute for me. Those with any fame or notoriety or power attract people for good reasons and bad. Some want to contribute and some want to take something away for themselves. They flatter and entreat, and it is engaging, even addictive." she writes in an excerpt in TIme.
Now, she refuses to let the “indiscretion, however long in duration, take over my life.” John’s “lies went on for some time,” she notes, but after months of talk between the two of them, “the road ahead looks clear enough, although from here it looks long.”
