Reacting to the Mumbai terror attacks, India’s sports minister said today that he opposes upcoming cricket matches between India and Pakistan, the Washington Post reports. MS Gill said India's team should not take a 5-week Pakistani tour as planned while "people from their soil were indulging in mass murder in India." India has blamed a Pakistani-based terror group for mounting the strikes.
“How is it possible for one team to arrive in Mumbai and indulge in mass murder,” asked Gill, “and have another team go and play cricket in the winter afternoon sun at Lahore?” A pair of renowned cricketers agreed, but the nation's Olympic committee president broke ranks: "Sporting ties should be retained with Pakistan and all other neighboring countries," he said. India's government is expected to make the final decision.
