Trump Says He 'Deserves' to Meet Whistleblower

President Trump has called the Ukraine whistleblower "almost a spy" who should be handled like we "used to do in the old days when we were smart." Now he says he wants to meet him or her. "Like every American, I deserve to meet my accuser, especially when this accuser, the so-called 'Whistleblower,' represented a perfect conversation with a foreign leader in a totally inaccurate and fraudulent way," the president tweeted Sunday. CNN reports that the whistleblower's lawyers wrote to acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire over the weekend, saying they had "serious concerns ... regarding our client's personal safety," which had been "heightened" by some of Trump's recent remarks.

Maguire, who was appointed by Trump, has said he thinks the whistleblower did the right thing. In other tweets Sunday, the president attacked Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff, saying he should be "questioned at the highest level for Fraud & Treason." Schiff angered Republicans on Thursday by paraphrasing Trump's July 25 conversation with Ukraine's president, prefacing his remarks by saying "in not so many words, this is the essence of what the president communicates," Politico reports. Trump said he also wanted to meet "the person who illegally gave this information, which was largely incorrect" to the whistleblower. "Was this person SPYING on the U.S. President?" Trump wondered. "Big Consequences!" (Schiff says the whistleblower has agreed to testify before Congress.)
