Charges brought against President Trump's former campaign officials haven't affected the commander in chief, who tells the New York Times in a brief phone call on Wednesday that he's having a great time in the White House—aiming to counter reports that have surfaced since Robert Mueller's Russia investigation took a turn this week. Trump specifically mentioned a Washington Post report published Monday, which portrayed a furious president and quoted a Republican close to the administration as saying, "The walls are closing in. Everyone is freaking out." In reality, "I'm in the office early and leave late; it's very smooth," Trump said. "I'm really enjoying it" and "I'm actually not angry at anybody."

Advisers who spoke to the Times said administration officials were surprised to learn former aide George Papadopoulos cooperated with investigators for months before pleading guilty to lying to the FBI about his attempts to connect with Russians. They were also unprepared for news that former aide Sam Clovis testified before Mueller's grand jury, as NBC News reported. But advisers say reports of a team in chaos are untruthful. One adds that there's been no talk of firing Mueller. Trump stressed Wednesday that the indictments have "nothing to do with us," and repeated, "I'm not under investigation." White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, however, has admitted that the Mueller investigation is a huge distraction for the president, per the Hill. (More President Trump stories.)
