Pete Rose, Welcome to a Hall of Fame

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred kept Pete Rose banned from baseball in December, but he did say that wouldn't necessarily keep Rose out of the Hall of Fame—and it turns out he was partly right. Rose, whose chances of making it into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown have been severely diminished thanks to his gambling scandal, will be 2016's only inductee into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame after the team circumvented its usual voting procedures, Cincinnati.com reports. Rose's #14 jersey will also be retired during the June ceremony, the museum's website and Twitter page note.

"Inducting Pete into the Reds Hall of Fame will be a defining moment in the 147-year history of this storied franchise," Reds CEO Robert Castellini said in a statement. "He is one of the greatest players to ever wear a Reds uniform and it will be an unforgettable experience watching him being honored as such." In response, Rose's pinned tweet on Tuesday read simply: "@Reds #Grateful #Thank You." (He's tried to say sorry before.)
