A West Virginia sex worker may have saved the lives of several colleagues by shooting a violent client in her home last weekend. Police say he could be a serial killer who planned to murder other sex workers, the Washington Post reports. The woman, whose identity is being held back, says she made an arrangement with 45-year-old Neal Falls via an online ad and let him into her Charleston, W.Va., home last Saturday. "I knew he was there to kill me," she tells KPTV. "I could tell that he had already done something because he said that he was going to prison for a long time. And that’s when I knew he was gonna kill me." He drew a gun and started strangling her so powerfully that "he just wouldn’t let me get any air," she says.
"I grabbed my rake and when he laid the gun down to get the rake out of my hands, I shot him," she adds. "I just grabbed the gun and shot behind me." When cops got there, they opened the trunk of Falls' Subaru and found a stunning "kill kit" including machete, knives, axes, cleaning supplies, and trash bags, the Daily Dot reports. They also found a possible "kill list" with the names of other sex workers who advertised on the same website. With six women involved in sex work and drug addiction found dead in the nearby town of Chillicothe, Ohio, over the past year, police are entering Falls' DNA into a national crime database, the Charleston Gazette-Mail reports. Sex workers have complained for years that police ignore violent serial attackers who target their community, the Dot notes. (More sex workers stories.)
