Courtroom sadness: "Mother to mother, I apologize."—Mary O'Callaghan, LAPD cop, addressing in court to the mother of a woman who died after being beaten by O'Callaghan. The officer was sentenced to three years. Feud over: "I thought I was being called out. I missed the point, I misunderstood, then misspoke. I'm sorry, Nicki."—Taylor Swift, apologizing to Nicki Minaj over an insult that wasn't. Unsportsmanlike: "I did not intend to offend anyone w my comments. I realize my choice of words was poor and not reflective of who I am. I am sorry." Colin Cowherd, (now former) ESPN radio host, after saying this: "I've never bought into that 'Baseball's just too complex.' Really? A third of the sport is from the Dominican Republic." 70 years later: "Today we apologize remorsefully for the tragic events in our past, and expressed our profound determination to work toward a better future."—Mitsubishi exec Hikaru Kimura, for the company's use of American POWs in World War II as slave labor.
