(AP Photo/Charles Krupa) Being called a "world freedom fighter" by the mayor is a nice way to be greeted when you land in Philly. Meriam Ibrahim Tehya Ishag, the woman who came perilously close to being hanged in Sudan for renouncing Islam, marrying a Christian, and converting to Christianity, arrived in the City of Brotherly Love yesterday with her American husband and two children in tow, reports AFP. From there, they went on to New Hampshire, where husband Daniel Wani has family. Ishag had been released, rearrested, then released again, and took refuge in the US embassy with her family after death threats started pouring in. Before her flight to the US, Ishag met up with the pope in Rome and "learned how to live again," she said, including doing some sightseeing and shopping. (More Sudan stories.) Report an error
