When they first hired their live-in nanny back in March, Marcella and Ralph Bracamonte say she "was awesome." For a few weeks. But then they say Diane Stretton started refusing to work, or even leave her room except at meal times—and when they tried to fire her, she simply refused to leave, ABC News reports. Now, the California family appears stuck with their unwanted guest; police have told them that it's a civil matter, and that until the Bracamontes formally evict Stretton, she's free to come and go as she pleases, KTLA reports.

The Bracamontes did try evicting the 64-year-old, but because they filed the paperwork incorrectly Stretton got a judge to quash the notice, CBS reports. They've also tried turning off their Internet and cable and putting a lock on their refrigerator, but Stretton is still staying put, and is threatening to sue the family for wrongful firing and elder abuse. She's also demanded that the family stay out of the house from 8am to 8pm. It turns out Stretton knows her way around the courts; she's been involved in 36 lawsuits, earning her a place on California's Vexatious Litigant List. (More Diane Stretton stories.)
