Now that he's coming home, Bowe Bergdahl will surely see his old sweetheart—and learn that after 5 long years she apparently has a new boyfriend, the Daily Mail reports. Monica Lee, 25, "was very surprised and excited to hear he'd been freed" in a prisoner swap with the Taliban, said her mom Allison. "She asked me, 'What should I do now?' She is a little confused what is going on." In fact, Allison broke the news by interrupting Monica's hiking trip in the Idaho mountains with a cell-phone call; reception was poor, and Monica hasn't come home yet to hear the details.
Allison says Monica and the Bergdahl family supported each other "a lot," and Monica helped the family's campaign to have Bowe returned—but eventually Monica moved on and posted photos of herself on Facebook with another man, Justin Forsdick (the site says she's been dating since 2012). Bowe may be OK with it—after all, he told her to "not feel like she had to wait" in messages sent by the Taliban, Allison said. "No one knew how long he would be held for." The feelings of people in Bowe's hometown of Hailey, Idaho, seemed clear yesterday as they giddily uncorked champagne at a local bar, CNN reports. "We're all still kind of walking around on clouds," said a friend. "We're all just waiting to get eyes on him." (More Bowe Bergdahl stories.)
