Britney Spears' parents are terrified of the potentially life-threatening consequences of their daughter's release against the recommendations of her psychiatrist from UCLA Medical Center, where she was being treated for mental problems. "We are deeply concerned and believe her life is at risk," said the singer's parents, who charged that a court order giving Spears' father control of her affairs had been "blatantly" disregarded.

"We ask the orders be enforced so that a tragedy may be averted," they said in a statement. Britney spent her first day of freedom driving around with an unidentified male companion among a swarm of paparazzi. “Patients like Britney go back to their habits until they’ve hit rock bottom," one source explained. Spears' increasingly bizarre behavior resulted last month in a court-ordered termination of visitation rights with her two sons. (More Britney Spears stories.)
