Barack Obama plans to savage the House GOP budget proposal today, calling it "thinly veiled social Darwinism," according to a draft of the speech he'll deliver. "It’s a Trojan horse," Obama will say. "Disguised as deficit reduction plan, it's really an attempt to impose a radical vision on our country. … It's antithetical to our entire history as a land of opportunity and upward mobility to everyone who's willing to work for it."
The speech will be delivered this afternoon at the Associated Press' annual luncheon, the National Journal reports. Paul Ryan shot back at the president with a muted rebuke. "We all thought @BarackObama would be better than this. He had potential, making his leadership failures so disappointing," he said in a tweet spotted by Talking Points Memo. (More Paul Ryan stories.)
