Spike Lee: Sorry I Tweeted Wrong Zimmerman Address

Spike Lee apologized last night for a pretty major "oops": retweeting an address that he thought was the address of Trayvon Martin shooter George Zimmerman, but which was actually the address of a Florida couple with no connection to the case. David and Elaine McClain had to leave their home after receiving hate mail. "I Deeply Apologize To The McClain Family For Retweeting Their Address," the director tweeted. "It Was A Mistake. Please Leave The McClain's In Peace. Justice In Court".

Elaine McClain has a son from a previous marriage named William George Zimmerman, CNN reports. The man who first tweeted the incorrect address, Marcus D. Higgins, has also apologized. Meanwhile, the McClains have hired an attorney, the Orlando Sentinel reports. "At this point, they have retained us to protect their interests" and their safety, Matt Morgan says.
