People who live in the South are getting the worst, disturbance-filled sleep and experiencing the most fatigue during the day, reports a new study. The states with the highest sleep problems are Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, and West Virginia, while the best-rested snoozers generally hail from the the West, reports UPI.com. People in Delaware, however, were a clear No. 1 in reporting the least amount of "sleep issues." (Live Science has the full list here.)

The study analyzed self-reported data from 157,319 people in 36 states and didn't try to speculate why certain regions did worse. "The take-home message from this study is that different regions of the country sleep better than others," said the lead researcher. "We should begin to use this data to track patterns of poor sleep and try to understand why these patterns occur." (More sleep stories.)
