Yet another reason that Tyrannosaurus Rex was the scariest creature to ever stalk the planet: Scientists have figured out that T. rex boasted the most powerful bite of any animal in history, reports BBC Nature. The clench of the dinosaur's massive jaw was between 30,000 and 60,000 Newtons, "equivalent to a medium-sized elephant sitting on you," explains one.

Scientists used to think the bite was weaker—similar to the strength of an alligator's, until researchers from the UK developed a 3D model of a T. rex skull and virtually snapped its jaw muscles shut, measuring the enormous force. It's even possible that the adult T. rex, with a head that measured nearly 5 feet long, was the only dinosaur physically capable of eating through another dinosaur's hide.
