President Obama got rare praise from Dick Cheney today, as the former VP lauded the Osama decision on Fox News Sunday, reports Politico. "You’ve got to give him a lot of credit," said Cheney. "I give him high marks for making that decision." But Cheney also worried that the US is letting its guard down by easing off on the use of waterboarding and other "enhanced interrogation" techniques. "I would advocate it," he said. "I would be a strong supporter of it."
Other odds and ends from AP and Politico:
- Pakistan: National Security Adviser Tom Donilon said he's seen no evidence that Pakistan hid bin Laden but expected full cooperation in an investigation. Former defense chief Donald Rumsfeld said "it's possible" Pakistan didn't know. "You go from the Pentagon up the Potomac River and look at those big estates up there with gated walls and trees and hidden from sight, we don’t know what is going on there."
- Pakistan denies: Ambassador Husain Haqqani said his nation did not protect bin Laden. "Were there cracks through which things fell through? Absolutely, and we will investigate that and get to the bottom of that."
- 50-50: Donilon said Obama figured there was a 50% chance bin Laden was in the compound when he made his decision. He also said the US wants access to the three bin Laden widows detained by Pakistan.
- Rudy running? Asked whether he's considering a 2012 bid, Rudy Giuliani answered, "Not right this moment, but yes I am."
