Losing sleep over news that the national deficit will hit $1.6 trillion this year? Well, why not make a donation to help cover some of it? Every little bit helps, after all—and, as Consumerist points out, the Treasury Department has a program that enables you to donate via your computer, you know, via credit card! It started in 1996, and in 2009, the year it made the most money, brought in nearly $3.1 million. So far this year, the tally is $406,606. But bad news: Your donation to the government is not tax-deductible. (More national debt stories.)
