Obama to Troops: You're Winning

President Obama capped his surprise visit to Afghanistan by delivering words of encouragement to US troops at the Bagram base north of Kabul, Bloomberg reports. “You are protecting your country, you’re achieving your objectives, you will succeed in your mission,” Obama said. “We said we were going to break the Taliban’s momentum and that’s what you’re doing.”

Obama added that while public opinion may not be united on the war, the American people are united behind their service members. “I can say without hesitation that there is no division on one thing, no hesitation on one thing, and that is the uniform support of our men and women who are serving,” the president said. Besides addressing the troops, Obama's 3-hour trip to Afghanistan also included meetings with top military and civilian officials, and a phone call with Hamid Karzai.
