DARE Convinces Kid to Turn in His Parents' Pot

Well, chalk this one up as a victory for the DARE program. A recent anti-drugs demonstration at a North Carolina elementary school was quite effective at convincing one 11-year-old boy that marijuana is dangerous—so effective, in fact, that the boy went home, grabbed his parents’ marijuana cigarettes, brought them to school, and snitched on mom and dad. Now they’re facing charges, and the boy and a sibling are staying with relatives after social services intervened.

“I don’t give drugs to my kids,” the father tells WBTV. Still, the DARE officer is satisfied with the outcome. “Even if it's happening in their own home with their own parents, they understand that's a dangerous situation because of what we're teaching them,” he says. “That's what they're told to do, to make us aware.”
