As the Democrats were rallying the troops today, the GOP was busily trying to drive a stake in their hearts. John McCain led the charge, telling Fox News Sunday that Dems "are just flailing around" on the economy and "the first thing we need to do is extend" the Bush tax cuts. Allowing them to expire, he said derisively, is simply "the old class warfare—let's attack the rich." The GOP's showing in November could be "seismic," McCain said, and both he and Lindsey Graham called for a new "Contract With America."
The pair swiped at President Obama, with Graham labeling him "tone-deaf" on terrorism, the mosque debate, and the economy, while calling for him to come "back to the middle." McCain, meanwhile, knocked White House handling of border policy. "I'd love for the president to come and visit the border; unfortunately he hasn't seemed to have time to do so," McCain said. "We've got to get our border secured."
