No more debates for Jan Brewer, but Arizona's governor is clearing one thing up: No headless bodies are turning up in the state's desert regions because of illegal immigration. "That was an error, if I said that," she tells AP. "I misspoke, but you know, let me be clear, I am concerned about the border region because it continues to be reported in Mexico that there's a lot of violence going on and we don't want that going into Arizona."
Brewer, as AP notes, had used the grisly image more than once to explain why the US had to get tough. (June 27 example: "Oh, our law enforcement agencies have found bodies in the desert, either buried or just lying out there, that have been beheaded.") The press, and opponent Terry Goddard, had been hounding her to provide proof.
