Wednesday's disastrous debate proved to be enough for Jan Brewer, who swore off participating in any more for the rest of the Arizona gubernatorial race. Brewer said she only agreed to the event because it qualified her campaign for $1.7 million in public funds. The governor argued that she and her rival have both held office for nearly 30 years— "I think it's pretty defined what he stands for and what I stand for," Brewer said. "Why would I want to give Terry a chance to redefine himself?"
Brewer had an awkward stumble in her opening statement at the debate, then dodged reporters' questions afterward. She says she did the latter because reporters were peppering her with questions about her use of the image of "headless bodies in the desert" in the immigration debate.
