Charlie Crist continued to avoid the question of whether he would caucus with Democrats or Republicans if he wins Florida's Senate race as an independent. During an interview with CNN's State of the Union on Sunday, Governor Crist said he would "caucus with the people of Florida," CQ Politics reports. "I’m going to go the way that’s best for them," Crist continued. The governor remains opposed to gay marriage, though he described himself as a "live-and-let-live" kind of guy.
Crist took a nuanced stance on health care—he now says he would've voted against it had he been a senator, but that if he wins, he'll work to "fix" it. "Only an Independent can look at this one bill and find parts of it that are good and parts of it that are bad." Since declaring his intention to run as an independent, Crist has moved to the center in an attempt to court the Democratic vote. Nonetheless, Kendrick Meek, the Democratic candidate, called him a "career-long Republican"—“I’m the only Democratic candidate in this race," Meek said.
