Pay-per-You-Tube? Don’t worry, you’ll still be able to watch all the goofy home movies and webcam confessions you can stomach for free, but Google is hoping to launch a new, paid section of its video behemoth by the end of the year, the Financial Times reports. Google executives are in talks with top Hollywood studios, selling them on the international benefits of a partnership.
“Google and YouTube are a global phenomenon with a hell of a lot of eyeballs—more than any cable or satellite service,” says one executive. “It’s a huge number.” It’ll cost about $5 to watch a new release, which would show up on YouTube at the same time they came out on DVD and iTunes.
