Two Arizona prison escapees and their alleged accomplice kidnapped and murdered an elderly couple so they could steal their camping trailer, prosecutors charge. John McCluskey and his fiancée Casslyn Welch—who were captured last week after weeks on the run—have been charged with murder and carjacking in New Mexico, as has fellow escapee Tracy Province, the AP reports.

McCluskey told police that the trio, tired of sleeping in a car, forced Gary and Linda Haas to drive their trailer to a remote area, according to the criminal complaint. McCluskey then shot the couple. The trio later burned and abandoned the trailer when they realized it was dripping with blood, the complaint states. The trio also faces charges of kidnapping, carjacking, and aggravated assault in Arizona, where they are being held, although efforts are under way to extradite them to New Mexico.
