Ligers Seized From Private Taiwanese Zoo

Three ligers—that's hybrid lion-tigers—were born yesterday at a private zoo in South Taiwan, landing their owner in hot water. One of the newborn cubs died immediately, and the other two have since been taken by authorities, who fined Huang Kuo-nan 50,000 Taiwanese dollars for breeding wildlife without prior approval. He said he was surprised by the pregnancy: "The lion and the tigress have been kept in the same cage since they were cubs more than six years ago, and nothing happened."
