Lance Stephenson, the Pacers’ second-round pick in this year’s draft, was arrested yesterday after allegedly pushing his girlfriend down the stairs. The incident happened around 5am, police tell the New York Daily News. According to them, Stephenson, 19, sent Jasmine Williams, 21, to the hospital with head and neck injuries. Williams is the mother of Stephenson’s son.
Stephenson was booked on charges of third-degree assault, harassment, and menacing, with a charge of criminal possession of a weapon later added by prosecutors. Stephenson was the highest-scoring high school player in New York State history, and won rookie-of-the-year honors in the Big East for Cincinnati last year. He was considered a first-round talent, but for some strange reason teams had off-the-court concerns. (More Lance Stephenson stories.)
