Hitting NYC's buses next week: An ad in which a plane is about to hit the World Trade Center, with an image of the planned Ground Zero mosque opposite it, and a really big "Why There?" in the middle. The MTA initially rejected the anti-mosque ad, created by Pamela Geller's American Freedom Defense Initiative, a group that seems to like bus messages, but changed its position rather than deal with a lawsuit Geller filed after being told she had to remove the plane, flames, and smoke, reports Gothamist.
Having initially been told "images of 911 were not allowed," Geller took to her blog to protest the "seventh-century censorship restrictions," writing "It is American history. How can it be banned? What about Pearl Harbor? Is that censored too?" The MTA did not, apparently, have any issues with the accuracy of the ads, which depicts the 13-story mosque as just as towering at the 110-story WTC was.
