A rescue team has skied through a blizzard to bring food and blankets to a group of sightseers who have been stranded on an Alaskan glacier since their small plane crashed two days ago. The team will stay with the four Texans and their Alaskan pilot while a helicopter circles waiting for a break in the whiteout weather conditions to lift them to safety, AP reports.
The group suffered only minor injuries when their plane hit a snowbank during a short sightseeing trip over the Knik glacier north of Anchorage, but they were stranded without heavy clothes or survival gear, and the weather thwarted attempts to drop them supplies. The sightseers are in "good spirits and good condition," and have been sheltering inside the aircraft, a National Guard spokesman tells the Anchorage Daily News.
