Slain Doctor in Afghanistan: 'Trek Will Not Be Easy'

Many of the details surrounding the execution of 10 aid workers, including six Americans, in Afghanistan are still being sorted out. But one of the victims, British surgeon Karen Woo, knew the dangers. "The trek will not be easy," she wrote beforehand of the journey to Nurestan, which entailed a 120-mile hike in the mountains.

"The expedition will require a lot of physical and mental resolve and will not be without risk but ultimately, I believe that the provision of medical treatment is of fundamental importance and that the effort is worth it in order to assist those that need it most," wrote Woo, who was engaged to be married. She was traveling with a Christian group known as the International Assistance Mission when they were stopped, robbed, and murdered. The Taliban has claimed responsibility.
