The highly anticipated video for Eminem’s “Love the Way You Lie” is out. It stars Megan Fox, features Rihanna, and has plenty of people unhappy with its message. “Domestic violence is AWESOME” seems to be the theme, writes Whitney Pastorek for Entertainment Weekly. Fox and co-star Dominic Monaghan are shown “intermittently beating the crap out of each other and playing intense, Stanley Cup levels of tonsil hockey,” and “all the rage and beatings are lit in a very dramatic and sexy way.” Domestic abuse victim Rihanna wears underpants, and Eminem is in "yes, a 'wifebeater,'" notes People.
“Does it take responsibility for its dramatization of domestic violence?” Pastorek wonders. Monaghan, for one, thinks it does. The video, which was inspired by Eminem’s stormy relationship with ex-wife Kim, attempts to show “that this was a relationship that is by no means ideal and a relationship that probably should have ended a lot sooner than it did,” Monaghan tells MTV. “There's nothing sexy or cool or fun about being in a violent relationship.” Fox donated her paycheck to a women's shelter.
