President Obama is on the path to a "failed presidency," writes William Kristol, but luckily for him, Kristol offers three easy steps to success in the Weekly Standard:
- Freeze the Bush tax cuts for 2 years: "There would be some ineffectual sniping from the left, but it would suddenly be harder for Republicans to label you some kind of rigid and threatening ideologue. And the economy would benefit."
- Scrap the 2011 Afghan deadline: It's doing more harm than good at this point. Do it within the month, maybe on a surprise trip to Afghanistan.
- Oppose the 9/11 mosque: Don't take legal action, just urge all parties involved to rethink because of the hostility. Plans will collapse, "and you'll get the credit."
See? This isn't so hard, writes Kristol. "Then major cuts in domestic discretionary spending in the budget early next year, and military action against the Iranian nuclear program—and you’ll have a real shot at a successful presidency." (More
