Online job hunters make common mistakes, writes Elizabeth Garone in the Wall Street Journal. Things to keep in mind:
- Mind your manners: This applies to your tweets, blogs, even your Facebook postings. Most hiring managers review your online presence, and most have rejected people because of something inappropriate they dug up. (Even if it's just an embarrassing photo shared by a friend.)
- Your profiles: Have one on LinkedIn, Twitter, or Facebook? If so, make sure it's complete. Having a half-dozen partially completed profiles scattered about several sites does "nothing except to annoy the exact people you want to impress: prospective employees trying to find out more about on you."
- Connections: Choose them wisely. If a recruiter contacts one of yours to ask a question, will they get a good answer?
