A former New York City cop caught on videotape shoving a bicyclist to the ground avoided a jail sentence today. Patrick Hogan, who'd been on the force only 2 weeks at the time of the incident, faced 4 years in prison or probation, but got neither, reports the New York Times. Hogan initially charged the cyclist with assault, alleging that he purposely steered into him. A popular YouTube video proves otherwise. Hogan was convicted of filing a criminal complaint with false statements, a felony. (More NYPD stories.)
