Popular Brazil goalkeeper Bruno Fernandes de Souza has surrendered to Rio police after a cousin reported he helped the soccer star in a plot to abduct and kill his mistress. Police believe Eliza Samudio, 25, was beaten to death, and traces of her blood were discovered in Fernandes' car, reports the Latin American Herald Tribune. Her body has not been found.

Samudio's 4-month-old son, apparently fathered by Fernandes, was found with a family linked to the goalkeeper. His wife has also been arrested. Fernandes said he has a "clear conscience" and "will be able laugh at all this" in the future, reports the BBC. (More Bruno Fernandes stories.)
