Al-Qaeda Launches English Magazine
The front page of "Inspire" touts an editorial by Awlaki.   (SITE Intelligence)

Anwar al-Awlaki, the al-Qaeda propagandist who inspired several of the 9/11 hijackers and the Fort Hood shooter, has launched an English-language online magazine aimed at aspiring Muslim extremists who aren't so hot at Arabic. Inspire features articles like "How to Make a Bomb in the Kitchen of Your Mom." Counterterrorism officials say the magazine is targeting young Muslims in the US, the UK and Australia.

Awlaki and his group "are clearly trying to incite terrorist activity overseas, and to recruit new extremists," one official tells the Daily Beast. "The packaging of this magazine may be slick, but the contents are as vile as the authors." The launch wasn't as slick as the cover, SITE notes: all but three of the 67 pages in the first edition were just garbled computer code.
