Michael Jackson fans around the world honored the singer today on the first anniversary of his death, the AP reports. About 500 fans gathered at Jackson's mausoleum outside LA for a calm but emotional tribute to the King of Pop. "He's been my idol all my life since I can remember," said one weeping fan. "I feel like I haven't had closure."

In Jackson's hometown, Gary, Ind., hundreds of fans met Jackson's mother, Katherine, at the family home. Fans also gathered in Harlem, where This Is It is playing all day and Al Sharpton will lead a moment of silence. In Japan, hundreds gathered for a candlelight vigil and gospel concert. "Seeing all his things makes it all come back to me," said a 48-year-old Tokyo office worker and lifelong Jackson fan. "It makes me so sad to think that he is gone. He was wonderful."
