Bomb Kills Greek Counter-Terror Aide

A parcel bomb shook Greece's law enforcement ministry last night, killing a top aide to the country's public order minister. The blast—believed to have been caused by a bomb disguised as a box of sweets—shook the building so much that workers thought there had been an earthquake, the BBC reports. No group has claimed responsibility for the blast, but authorities believe a leftist guerrilla group is to blame.

The victim was a 50-year-old father of two. The bomb went off just yards away from the office of Michalis Chryssohoidis, the minister responsible for counter-terrorism, who says he has no doubt it was meant for him. A shaken Chryssohoidis said he had "lost a valuable and beloved colleague" and promised a tough response. "We cannot be scared and we cannot be terrorized," he said.
