Lightning Strikes Jesus

In what might be described a disaster of biblical proportions, a 62-foot-tall statue of Jesus Christ along an Ohio highway was struck by lightning in a thunderstorm last night and burned to the ground. The 6-story "King of Kings" statue was erected in 2004 by the evangelical Solid Rock Church along Interstate 75 in Monroe, north of Cincinnati. Nicknamed Touchdown Jesus by locals because its raised arms invoked a referee calling a touchdown, it was made of plastic foam and fiberglass.

The lightning strike set the statue ablaze around 11:15pm, the AP reports. In the end all that was left was the original steel frame. Read the full article.
