A surprising number of people are having sex in their sleep, according to a Canadian study. Researchers speaking to people with suspected sleep disorders found that more than 10% of men and 4% of women admitted that they'd engaged in sexual activity—ranging from masturbation to full intercourse—while asleep. "We were surprised at how common it was," the lead researcher says.
The prevalence of "sexsomnia," researchers say, had been underestimated because some people were too embarrassed to admit it to their doctors, while others didn't see the behavior as a problem. "Is it a problem? As long as you don't get into legal problems and as long as your partner doesn't mind, it's not a problem," the lead researcher tells the Telegraph. "Although it can leave you tired the next day." (More sleep disorder stories.)
