Former eBay CEO Meg Whitman will face off against Jerry Brown in the race to succeed Arnold Schwarzenegger as governor of California. Whitman—who poured tens of millions of dollars of her money into her bid to win the GOP nomination—defeated state insurance commissioner Steve Poizner, a fellow tech tycoon who spent $25 million on his campaign, the AP reports. Brown ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.
California's Republicans have never had a woman at the top of the ticket before, but now they have two: Carly Fiorina, former CEO of Hewlett-Packard, won the GOP's primary for the US Senate and will be running against three-term Sen. Barbara Boxer this fall. Fiorina, much like Whitman, scored high with GOP voters by emphasizing her conservative positions on social issues like abortion and gay marriage.
