Sorry, Armando Galarraga, baseball chief Bud Selig isn't going to reverse last night's blown call and give you a perfect game, reports AP. The news came as umpire Jim Joyce returned to Tigers Stadium today, and the first person he saw was the man he inadvertently robbed of the feat. Tigers manager Jim Leyland decided to let Galarraga deliver the day's lineup card to Joyce, as a way to defuse the potentially angry crowd.
Joyce had the chance to skip the game but decided to take his lumps, Leyland revealed. “That shows you what kind of man he is.” The crowd obligingly cheered when Galarraga delivered the card. Joyce was seen wiping a tear from his eye. Galarraga, meanwhile, seemed relaxed, reports the New York Daily News. “I forgave him, and I gave him a hug," he said earlier. "He made a mistake. That is all.” It probably helped that the Tigers had just presented him with a new Corvette. (More Armando Galarraga stories.)
