Standing silently in the spot where a car crash claimed three lives, the jury in the Princess Diana inquest today began retracing her last movements in Paris. This time the paparazzi were absent as police blocked off traffic to the Pont de l'Alma underpass and jurors walked to the 13th pillar. They planned to return at dark to get a better feel, Reuters reports.

The jurors began their 2-day journey to France with a visit to the service entrance of the Ritz Hotel, which Diana and Dodi al-Fayed used in a futile attempt to elude photographers. The 11-member group, which visited the tunnel accompanied by the coroner, court officials, and press, is also slated to visit the hospital where Diana died. (More Princess Diana stories.)
