Please, Let 'Overblown' Sestak Story Go Away

The story from the White House is that Bill Clinton, on Rahm Emanuel's behest, offered Joe Sestak an “unpaid advisory position” to drop out of the race against Arlen Specter. It's an obvious lie—come on, would Sestak even consider dropping out for so little?—and Joe Klein of Time is outraged. Not because it's a serious crime, but because dancing around the truth “may keep this way-overblown story in the news.”

“Why overblown? Because the Obama Administration may have been caught here in the commission of...politics,” Klein writes. There was nothing wrong with offering the admiral a job—he's “qualified for any administrative position short of Supreme Court Justice.” This is just the kind of bogus story “that propagandists from both parties routinely use to kick up meaningless dust.” (More Joe Sestak stories.)
