It happens every day on public transportation worldwide: Guy sees pretty girl, they chit-chat, guy fails to ask pretty girl out, pretty girl gets off, never to be seen again. Only this guy, Keir Moffatt, started a Facebook group to see if he could get a second chance—and more than 10,000 people joined within days. The lovestruck 26-year-old Brit has now called off the search out of respect for the mystery girl's privacy and is urging well-wishers to donate to a cancer charity instead. More than $1,500 has already been raised, the Telegraph reports.

'I figured it was possible that she did not want to be found—pretty understandable!—and that it was best to respect that," Moffatt wrote on the Facebook page. "So, much to everyone's disappointment, I called off the search and let the mystery girl remain a mystery." Raising money for cancer, he says, would be "a potentially wonderful outcome to an otherwise rather embarrassingly self-indulgent quest." (More Bristol stories.)
