The British haven't finished counting the votes from yesterday's election yet but it's now certain that no party will gain a majority of seats in Parliament, despite a large swing of votes toward the Conservatives away from the ruling Labour Party. Britain now has a "hung parliament," in which no party has an overall majority, for the first time in decades.

It's the "Mick Jagger election, with no one getting any satisfaction," a historian tells the BBC. Gordon Brown will remain prime minister for now, and both he and Conservative leader David Cameron are expected to spend the next few days trying forge a deal to form a coalition government with the Liberal Democrat party, which took a much smaller share of the vote last night than had been predicted.
